Millions of people rebel against their Creator, claiming there is no God and even proclaim themselves as ‘god’. Or they cry out that the earth itself is ‘god’ by naming this planet ‘Mother Earth’. But our planet did not create itself. Nothing can create itself. God is our Maker.
If you want to know who God is, you have to acknowledge first of all that He is your Creator.
God is the One Who designed all the stunning beauty in nature, and Who made us intelligent and creative beings – just like Himself. This is a huge stumbling block for many people. But you can’t know who God is, if you don’t recognize this reality. You did not create yourself, evolution did not create all this overwhelming beauty, it did not create itself – we have been created by our glorious and awesome Maker.
Who is God?
He is your loving Father!
The second reality I want to show you, is that God is your Father. Because He is the One who created everything, He is also our Father. He is the One who meant us to be, He gives purpose to our lives. He has a plan with creation. He has the answers. He is our Home.
In Him we find what we are looking for.
When you find God, you don’t find a big boss, who is angry and full of frustration. No, when you find God, you come home, as a beloved son or daughter of a deeply gracious and loving Father.
God is your Father and He longs to see you come home with Him.
How do we know that God is our Father? Because God Himself revealed Himself this way. This brings us to our third reality: God showed us very clearly who He is, by becoming a human being, just like us. He sent Jesus Christ.
Who is God?
Look at His Son, Jesus Christ!
Because God is a Father who deeply loves us, He wants us to know Him as He truly is. He doesn’t want us to wonder about like lost sheep without a shepherd, looking for directions and never finding the right path. He wants us to know Him, as He truly is. Therefor He sent Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ said very strongly that we can only know who God is, by looking at Him and following Him.
Many people say Jesus was a great prophet or a wise teacher. Others say He was a good man and an example for all of us. Although all these things are true, Jesus Christ said completely different things about Himself. Read some of His amazing claims:
‘I and the Father are one.’ (John 10:30)‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’ (John 14:6)‘No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.’ (John 1:18)
Jesus Christ made it crystal clear that He and God are the most perfect unity one can imagine.
Jesus Christ did not come as a prophet or teacher but as God himself, as the perfect expression of the heavenly Father. Jesus revealed God as a Father who cares deeply about us, who gives everything for us, who wants to help us and deliver us from the evil.
Who is God?
He is your redeemer…
God isn’t vague, abstract, absent or unreachable, but He is with you. He knows you through and through. He is the one that gives life and love. He is the source of everything good, says the Bible. His love for us is too intense to express in words. Living proof of God’s love for us is Jesus Christ who gave his life for us as an atonement for our sins.
We deserve the fire of consuming judgement from God, because of our selfishness and dishonesty, our impurity and pride. There is so much evil in the heart of a person. Nobody deserves it to be forever with God who is so perfect in love, holiness, goodness and truth. No man can earn by his own merits to be in God’s perfectly pure presence.
But God has shown who He is: a Redeemer, a Saviour, a Deliverer.
Jesus Christ came to the earth to be the sacrificial lamb to die for the blame of sinful humanity. He took our sins upon Him. That is the greatest proof of God’s love. Looking at that you can see who God is: He is love. He is redemption, He is deliverance. He is hope for the lost world.
Jesus Christ gave His life and blood… to save you from your sins and guilt.
No matter how evil we are and how many mistakes we have made, thanks to the substitute death of Jesus Christ God can now say to us:
“I want to forgive you even if your sins are scarlet red I will make them whiter than snow I will give you a new life, a new identity a new future. Your sins will be forgiven and I will make you completely new.”
God is a saviour who wants to deliver us and give us a new life. That’s why the Bible emphasises that God is merciful. He is the source of eternal love. Love that doesn’t change. Love that cleanses and completely renews us. Love that embraces us and thanks to Jesus Christ, makes us beloved children of God.
‘Those who receive him and believe in his name He has given the privilege to become his children.’ (John 1:12)
We can only really start to experience the love of God if we truly and deeply turn away from all evil, if we decide to serve Him and turn our backs to sin. Accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He wants to give you a new life. Turn you towards Him. Turn away from you selfish way of living. Turn away from all evil that this world will offer you and let yourself be cleansed by Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ died on the cross as a sacrifice for your sins.
Do you want to know God? Do you want to be delivered from the evil of this world and your own heart? Do you want to be a beloved child of God. Take these four steps:
- Turn around, move towards God and away from your sins.
- Believe that Jesus Christ is your Saviour.
- Be baptised in water as a sign that your old life has disappeared and you are starting a new life with God.
- Receive the Holy Spirit as God’s gift (learn more about the Holy Spirit).
You don’t have to be pious and religious but you’ll be a child of God who wants to live according to the Father’s will. That’s the big difference. Religion will keep you far away from God. A child of God takes shelter in his arms and enjoys his intimate closeness as your best Friend and loving Father.
God is here for you. He wants to free you from everything that binds you. He wants to fill you with his love.
The following words are inspired by the Holy Spirit:
“I am the God that KNOWS you, says God.I am the God that sees you, says God.I know you, I understand you, I empathize with you.I am not far away, says God. I am very close.I understand you in the deepest possible sense.Your most hidden thoughts have been known to me since long, says God.I am your Father who doesn’t condemn but wants to deliver.Return to Me, says God. Return to Me, my beloved, so you can discover who I really am.I died for you as the sacrificial lamb, says Jesus to free you from blame, from your sins. You know you are not perfect, says God. You know you have failed, that you are not completely pure. But I died on the cross to make your heart and your inner being whiter than the purest snow, as pure as I am, says Jesus.Let me wash your sins away, says Jesus Christ. Let me take your guilt away. Let me make you anew through my Holy Spirit, says God.
